Showing some advanced eye-tracking technology using multiple cameras above the TV, this combined with new 3D monitor technologies could provide a 3D image without the need to use 3D glasses, and that would work for multiple people infront of the TV regardless of where they are actually located infront of the TV. They also have a system that lets the user point at a screen with the finger and use the finger as the mouse, where it calculated the angle of the eyes and the finger to determine where the user is pointing.

Here is a link to download a 263mb sample recorded with this new Sanyo HD1000 30fps 1080i camcorder (which also has got a 60fps and 30fps 720p mode which I didn’t test yet): SANY0003.MP4 (The camcorder’s firmware still is being worked on by the engineers so this might not be the exact quality using the finalized production model that will be launched in October.) You can use QuicktimeAlternative with CoreAVC codec to playback this native 1080i H264 video file.

Frank-Thomas Buechler, Pre-Sales Consultant for Alcatel-Lucent is talking about their suggestion for a digital TV system for mobile devices. It works by a combination of using the existing 3G antennas by simply adding a DVB-SH box to these, as well as combining that with a DVB-SH satellite that covers a whole continent. This would provide countinent-wide up to 96 TV channels be it with a direct line of sight to the satellite or when in densely populated areas with roofs and tall buidlings, then in the proximity of a 3G cell tower. The TV channels are to be broadcast at around 256kbit/s, which is suitable for use on mobile devices such as Archos and mobile phones. DVB-SH will launch in the beginning of 2008 using the terrestrial 3G antennas in Europe, followed by the planned launch of the satellite covering the whole of Europe by the end of 2008. USA will also be getting DVB-SH soon. How this will supplement DVB-H, DVB-T and if it will need to compete or supplement UHF-based data networks such as WiMax, 3G and HSDPA, this is to be seen how this folds out within the next couple of years.

DivX Inc. is launching a new platform that is called DivX Connected, demonstrated by this first beta testing model manufactured by D-Link. It’s a standard suitable for any device that has an Ethernet port and that can playback DivX. It makes it very easy and cheap to add the functionality of accessing any content from the PC, from the local network and from the Internet using a computer in the house as the host and real-time DivX encoder. So anything that your PC can run, will be available directly on your TV using the remote control. Even advanced AJAX, Flash, 3D games, Applications, whatever, can be added as Plugins to the DivX Connected platform rather easilly using a DivX Connected Plugins SDK. The price for DivX Connected devices could be below $100 soon, since currently DivX Certified DVD players cost $39, then they just need to add an Ethernet port to those boxes to provide the DivX Connected abillity. Which will include all VOD content, Stage6 DivX progressive downloading and instant seeking in progressively downloaded video over the Internet. It also can support up to 1080p video, and the hardware can upscale standard resolution DivX video to make it look better on HD screens.

The Interview is with Rémi Durand, Archos products manager and marketing director about the Gen5, which is in my opinion one of the best value one can find today as a gadget, and which is gradually becoming much more then a gadget, this can be an integrated part of ones digital lifestyle with all music and video going through one pocket $199 Connected touch-screen 150grams device. This interview is longer and the questions subjects sometimes require some background knowledge about the Archos Generation 5, which I will soon review in full HD quality on this video-blog. I am a long time fan of Archos and I update the blog at http://archosfans.com and I administer the forum at http://forum.archosfans.com. This Gen5 also includes a $249 DVR VOD set-top-box called the TV+ that in my opinion could become Archos biggest commercial success so far if the VOD+DVR content turns out to be extremely user-friendly, and a $90 105 which places Archos I think comfortably in the affordable flash based color screen Mp3 player segment.

LG shows their answer to the iPhone, this is a nice looking large touch-screen phone runing LG’s own user interface. It comes with a good camera that records a lot of frames per second which can provide some fun slow motion replays. This will work on HSDPA.
