Panasonic

Posted by Charbax on 17th March 2006

A cool Panasonic representative is showing me their latest DVC Pro HD camera that shoots 1920×1080i and 720p50 in 100mbit/s. The World Cup will be filmed with these cameras and broadcasted in 720p on some HD channels. Then he also shows me the next generation consumer HD camera from Panasonic with SD card memory and the new Panasonic 7,4 megapixel XLR camera.

Peerio

Posted by Charbax on 17th March 2006

Peer-to-peer technology for voice over IP, you would need new hardware, but this system, if it works and is reliable and supported by governments and companies, it could replace the centralized voice-over-IP systems as SIP and Asterix and all that. This technology could be competing with Cisco, Avaya and all these established networking companies.

Metro RFID

Posted by Charbax on 17th March 2006

Showing cool RFID technologies, like you would have chips in all the products in your fridge, and it would automatically generate a shopping list for you with missing product, then when you identify yourself at the supermarket with a special shopping cart, it tells you where to go in the store to pick up the product, and as soon as you throw a product in the shopping cart it adds it to your screen, and to checkout you could just walk out of the store and pay with your account automatically.

Siemens peer-to-peer technology

Posted by Charbax on 17th March 2006

Siemens are demonstrating some awesome peer-to-peer technology with huge potential if it is effective and works. It’s a peer-to-peer set-top-box where you connect your SIP phone, TV, harddrives and other devices and they all go on the Siemens peer-to-peer network. They say to have very effective p2p video streaming, instant messaging and other things. This is possibly how the next generation internet is going to be.

CMO

Posted by Charbax on 16th March 2006

It’s the second biggest big LCD TV screen manufacturer from Taiwan. I am being filmed by the press lady because she could not find anyone at the stand who could talk on video. At that booth I got some information about price difference between 720p “HD Ready” and 1080p Full HD, supposedly the price difference is only something like 10 or 20$. Probably, just after the world cup, the big brands will change all the “HD Ready” screens out with Full HD LCD screens for approximately the same price. So my recommendation is to not buy “HD Ready” LCD, rather look for the availabillity of Full HD screens for reasonable prices, or get a 1000$ “HD Ready” projector for the World Cup to be your temporary semi-HD screen solution, as the 1080p projectors might take longer to be available to consumers, and while most available HD content is 720p anyways. Even though the videos from my site are in “HD Ready” 720p, it’s best to have a Full HD screen that is more future proof. I could for example some day re-encode all my videos from the HDV 1080i source and re-release them as 1080p in a higher bitrate.

Lifesize

Posted by Charbax on 16th March 2006

High Definition videoconferencing system, sends a 720p h264 feed over a standard 1,5mbit/s two-way connection. This is the first high definition video-conferencing that I have experienced, it is really awesome! I cannot wait to have this in my living room with a nice HDTV and that everyone in my family and friends would have the same. It is definately interesting to talk with someone in HD on a big screen, so look forward to having this in your living room and finding it usefull to stay connected and have long conversations like this with family and friends who are far away.

Thomson Portable DVB-T

Posted by Charbax on 14th March 2006

This is a portable DVB-T player from Thomson, with Sim-card compartment so it also supports pay-per-view. It nearly fits in the pocket, has a dual antenna system that always picks the best signal, but no harddrive built-in for portable DVR functions yet.
